Let’s go for a Drive

I said that just the other day and wondered if Gertrude was here! She loved a Sunday drive. Maybe because she did not drive and could only go as far as her feet or the Buffalo transit took her during the week. It had to be on a Sunday and only if the weather was good. That meant no snow or rain. We did have a few of those days during the short but wonderful summers in western New York. The summer days were long with the sun setting around 9 or 10 PM. That is in comparison to the winter days that started about 9 AM and ended at 4 PM. Maybe exaggerated, but the winter days were very short.

Where did we go? I really cannot remember much, but we did go up to Niagara Falls several times a year. It was spectacular to see the rapids and the Niagara gorge. This was before the Niagara power plant was built and diverted water to make electricity.

If a roadside stand was open, we'd stop and buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Western New York has a short growing season, but has the best fruits I have ever tasted.

So where are we heading on our Sunday drive? I am not sure but with the virus limiting our travels, any place will be fine with me.
