Christmas Cookies

Gertrude made the best assortment of cookies at Christmas time. I think she started shortly after thanksgiving and baked for days. She would make the cookie dough first and store it in the refrigerator. Then there were the baking days. I was invited on the day the she made her sugar cookies. My job was to select the right cookie cutter. My favorite cutter was the Santa and the star. I still have the Santa with its wooden handle.

When my girls were growing up we would put on a Neil Diamond CD and listen to the good Jewish man sing Christmas carols. The house would be filled with great smells and lots of laughs. I miss those days as the girls are grown and off on their own. But when I hear Neil Diamond sing I’ll be home for Christmas it brings back so many great memories.
